Kissing the Bride

The Whole Wedding Party

Trevor and Amber

Trevor and Amber got married on August 30, 2008 in Clark Colorado.  The wedding is now history, but the memories will live on forever.  The day was perfect and everyone had an awesome time!

The Big Catch of the Day

 Cleaning Fish

Haying is in full swing...the weather isn't exactly cooperating though.  We have been having some rain, but the quality and quantity of the hay is really good.  We did take some time out to go fishing in our new fish pond.  Cameron caught the most fish, but Faye caught the biggest one!  Kent cleaned them and we fried them up for supper!

2008  AIing Cows

It started out as a beautiful spring day.  Trevor and Amber were in Nashville at her sister's wedding and Kent, Cameron and I were at home finishing up the AIing and pairing out.  Sounds like a great way to spend the day, so we head off to the AIing facilities.  I took my camera along, just in case I might get a good shot of the cows, or the guys, or just a pretty scenic view from atop a hill.   Anyway, it is Cameron's and my job to round the pasture of cows and calves up and Kent's job to lure them in with the feed wagon.  I head out on the 4-wheeler and Cameron is on his trusty horse Bud.

A beautiful view from our pasture

I was trying to round up the cows on my side of the pasture, and did a pretty good job until I got distracted by taking pictures.  Pretty soon Cameron and Bud came riding up to me as I'm snapping pictures to tell me I need to get to work...we're really close to having a "wreck"!  A wreck meaning all the cows and calves are about to get back on us....so I tuck my camera in my jacket and head off to round the cows up.  We certainly don't want a "wreck" now do we?!?!?

It started off as a beautiful spring day, and ended that way as well!  We get the job done, and I even get a few pictures.

We're on the tail end of AIing the cows and heifers.  It has been raining "buckets".  We never really want to complain about the moisture, because it can turn off dry so quickly, but we could sure use some sunshine.

The Nebraska Ranch Expo is next week so Cameron is getting his heifer ready to display.

WAY TO GO CAMERON!

The weather has finally warmed up a little bit, and things are starting to green up.  The cattle aren't all out to pasture yet, there just isn't enough grass yet.  Brandings are coming to an end and we're starting to think about AIing the cows.

2008 SALE REPORT

Kent and Faye Smith of Smith Angus Ranch held their 19th Annual Angus Bull Sale on Friday March 28th at the ranch south of Bassett.  A large crowd of cattle buyers were on hand to analyze and select their purchases from the 95 head of yearling and fall yearlings that sold.

Thirty one fall yearling bulls averaged $3450 and sixty four yearlings averaged $2647.

The top selling bull was an In Focus son and went to Antholz Angus from Cook, Nebraska for $6500.  Butch Fischer of Bassett took home an Onward son for $5000, and Shovel Dot Ranch from Rose, found a Bennett Performer son that went for $5000.  Lonnie Franssen of Amelia had his eye on an Onward son for $4900, and Carlyle Cook from Springview also took home an Onward son for $4600.   Teaford and Simonson from Purdum liked the Onward cattle as well and took home two for $4700 and $3500.  Homer Mundell of Walsh, Colorado got the last bid on two In Focus bulls that brought $4400 and $4250 and Todd Jordening from Fairbury purchased lot #1 another In Focus son for $4500.

  2008 BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION

We celebrated Cameron's birthday with a family dinner, and Payton spent the weekend.

We're still in a deep freeze here.  The fortunate thing is that we haven't started calving yet.  We're getting ready for the bull sale, but hate to start clipping because of the ice.
