The Smith Family has a long history in the production of quality cattle.  This tradition began 124 years ago when:

ABRAHAM AND REBECCA SMITH

made their way from Iowa in the fall of 1884.  They traveled in a covered wagon with their four children.  They brought with them four horses, 30 head of cattle, a mower and a rake.    Their dream was to own land, establish a  home, and make a new life for their family.   Their journey came to an end 27 miles southeast of Bassett, Nebraska in the heart of the Sandhills.

IRA AND LAURA SMITH

Ira, Laura, George, Charlotte, and Alice

raised their three children on this ranch and spent their entire active lives here.  They all worked together to improve their homestead.  They planted  many trees on what had once been barren land.  We are now reaping the benefits of all their hard work and love of the land.

GEORGE AND CLARICE SMITH

George, Clarice, Trevor, Cameron, Brett, Kayla & Lynde

raised two children on this ranch, Kent and his sister Rennae.   Clarice continues to live in the house Ira built for Laura.  George passed away in November 2000 following a battle with cancer.  The family all miss him very much, but they plan to continue in the same tradition that he would have wanted.

KENT AND FAYE SMITH

Kent and Faye Smith, Trevor, Cameron and Amber

Kent and Faye were married in 1976 and have been ranching and expanding their operation ever since.  They have two children, Trevor and Cameron.  Trevor is 28 and graduated from the Ranch Management Program at TCU in Fort Worth, Texas.   After taking a few courses to complete his studies at UNL he  worked on The Home Ranch near Clark, Colorado as a Wrangler.   He is now home helping on the family ranch.  Cameron is 13 and enjoys the ranching life.  He loves baby calves, riding horses, halter breaking his 4-H calves, his yellow lab Sugar, and helping his Dad and big brother.  Amber has been in Nebraska since she graduated from college in May of 2006.  She has been helping out on the ranch and now is employed at the Good Samaritan Home in Atkinson.

THE SMITH FAMILY

Kent's sister, Rennae and husband Alvin Ruiz live in Yoder, Wyoming and have three children Brett, Kayla, and Lynde.   They live on a ranch and  Alvin is an Ultrasound Technician, and Rennae is employed at a Vet Clinic in Torrington.
